A Real Steal

So, I was at D.I. (Deseret Industries) yesterday, looking for fabric, because Jaimie wanted a new dress for 12th Night. I found fabric — lots and lots of fabric — several pieces of 100 percent linen, ranging from 3 to 10 yards for $3.50 – $8.00, a gorgeous 8 yard piece of forest green silk for $8.00. (The original sticker price on the bolt was 19.99 per yard.) Yea for bargains! But Jaimie didn’t like the colors/patterns of any of my deals, so at 8:30 last night we went to the fabric store and she bought, with HER hard -earned money — fabric.

We came home and around 9:00 p.m I started sewing. It grew later and later, then earlier and earlier, and the dress was finally finished. But, in the meantime, Katie came home, and seeing fabric and a dress in the making, used her “oh Mommy, you love me, make one for me” attitude and voice — I made a valiant effort at resisting, but was overcome by a temporary moment of insanity (brought on I’m certain by the earliness of the hour, being about 3:00 a.m.) — so while Jaime did the hemming on her gown, (her sole contribution, other than looking delightful in it), I commenced to make a dress for Katie, my brain addled by chocolate, engergy drinks, and Dr. Pepper. Many things are funny at 4:00 a.m. during a sewing marathon.

Finishing shortly before 8:00 a.m. — I realized I had been awake a full 24 hours plus, and being the responsible type, I decided sleeping before driving might just be a “good thing”. I guess we won’t make opening court — but the girls will look lovely in Court tonight.

PS: The aforementioned dresses, and a doublet can be added to the Arts and Sciences report for this month. Hee, hee.
