My stairs are still not finished, but I wanted to wait to do the tops of the steps until after I did one of the other rooms with the paper-bag flooring techniques. For the steps, I am going to use actual book pages, and perhaps add quotes from the books. I did a practice run to see what it was going to look like. I am pretty sure I am going to go with the uncrumpled book pages. I am excited to see what it looks like when it’s all finished. A couple of the other rooms will be the paper bags, perhaps with stain. My cousin inspired me with the floors she did at her home. If mine turn out like that; I will be pleased. The prep was time consuming and messy; but between Jaimie, Jason, and I we got it done.
Captain Underfoot was of course supervising, Jaimie was not a happy camper with having to take all of the staples out — but she worked away at it. I came up with the title list, which was changed multiple times. Then eventually, we got to the fun part where I watched while Jaimie worked her magic and created my book stairs. I was so excited that I clapped my hands when I saw the first completed book title.
And because I decided the steps did not provide enough title space, I decided to make a “book wall” and I rather like how it is turning out. And bonus, it added space for twelve more book titles.
So that is the book project in a nutshell. In my next blog post, I will tell you about the progress on The Secret Garden room. I am excited at how everything is coming along. And I absolutely love the bed I found for this room! More soon, complete with pictures.
