Witness

Lest we forget? But – have we forgotten? The cost, the maiming of war? Lest we forget?

Witness

Ukraine
Yellow and blue
Flag waving, defiantly
Raised over city, field, and town
Blazes glory to Ukraine

Butchers
Degenerates
Leaving horror in their wake
Imprints on city, field, and town
Innocents dead silent

War Crimes
Atrocities
Unfettered, unleashed, rain down
In houses, on schools in the streets,
Witnessed, worldwide, online.

Ukraine
Heart broken, stoic
Endless sifting through rubble
In cities, fields, forests, and towns
Looking for life, sees death

Banner
Yellow and blue
Defiantly waving, in
Shells of cities, fields, burned out towns
One day will rise— from ash.

Slava Ukraine!

April is National Poetry Month, and I’ve joined a poetry challenge, which is to write a poem a day for thirty days using a different poetry form each day. Today’s prompt is a Pensee poem – five lines with a specific format.  If you would like to follow along this is where the poem prompt originates: Stephanie Says So.
